Scene break
A scene break is a visual pause inside a chapter — marked in manuscripts as *** or a blank-line gap, and typeset as white space or an ornament (❦, ⁂, · · ·) with the next paragraph unindented.
Fiction's unit between paragraph and chapter. Manuscript convention marks it with a centered *** or # so it survives page turns; typesetting replaces the marker with the design's separator. The paragraph after a scene break traditionally begins flush left (no indent), same as a chapter opening.
