Is A5 the same as 5.5×8.5?+
Close but not identical: A5 is 5.83×8.27in — slightly wider and shorter than 5.5×8.5. Page counts land within a few pages of each other (245 vs 253 on our 90k-word test), but the PDFs are not interchangeable: the trim must match exactly.
Do US readers mind A5?+
A5 sits between common US trims and reads naturally; if your market is primarily US bookstore-style, 6×9 or 5.5×8.5 match shelf conventions more closely.
Does the gutter rule differ at A5?+
KDP's gutter brackets are by page count, not trim — 245 pages needs at least 0.5in inside, which the formatter sets automatically.
