A Press-Ready Book PDF for Any Printer
Typeset your manuscript, then download the interior a commercial printer asks for — CMYK, PDF/X, crop marks and 3 mm bleed — beside the PDF for KDP and the EPUB.
Print-on-demand platforms such as Amazon KDP convert whatever interior you upload. An offset or local printer asks for the file in their own terms, and a Word export is not it: black text built from four inks, no trim or bleed declared, nothing to cut by. Ceeryo typesets your .docx manuscript as a book, then converts it into a press-ready PDF: CMYK colour with all text and greys on the black plate only, a PDF/X-4 output intent, fonts embedded, the trim recorded on every page and, by default, crop and registration marks outside a 3 mm bleed. A version without marks is one click away for printers that add their own, and the plain PDF for KDP and the EPUB come from the same upload.

How it works
From manuscript to book in four steps
The fastest way from a finished Word manuscript to print-ready files — no templates, no desktop app, no per-page fiddling.
- Step 1
Upload your manuscript
Drop in the .docx manuscript you have finished writing. Your file is processed only to typeset it and is never used to train models.
- Step 2
Chapters are detected
Chapter openings, scene breaks and italics are found automatically, without changing a word of your text.
- Step 3
The book is typeset
Trim size, margins and gutter, running heads, drop caps and chapter openers are set as a real book interior.
- Step 4
Download print PDF + EPUB
A print-ready interior PDF at your chosen trim size plus a clean EPUB, checked against the geometry KDP enforces.
In short
A press-ready PDF is a book interior a commercial printer can plate without fixing it: CMYK colour, black text on the black plate only, fonts embedded, the trim and bleed declared in the file, and usually crop marks outside a 3 mm bleed. Ceeryo makes it from your Word manuscript, along with a version without marks and the PDF for KDP.
What is the difference between a print-ready and a press-ready PDF?
A print-ready PDF is what print-on-demand services take: exact trim, fonts embedded, in RGB or grey, which the service converts for its presses. A press-ready PDF is already in the printer's terms: CMYK, black text on the K plate only, a PDF/X output intent, the trim and bleed boxes set, and crop marks for printers that cut by them. Ceeryo gives you both from one upload.
For printers other than KDP
The file a press can plate as it is
Ceeryo converts the typeset book with Ghostscript, measures the ink on every plate to confirm the text sits on black alone, writes the trim and bleed into each page, and sets the marks outside the bleed so nothing prints where the page is cut. Because the interior is black and white, the marks are on the black plate too, and the three colour plates stay empty.
- Black text and every grey on the K plate only: no four-colour 'rich black' that blurs on press
- PDF/X-4 output intent and every font embedded
- Crop marks at the corners and a registration target on each side, outside a 3 mm bleed
- A version without marks, exactly trim size, for printers that set their own
Features
Why authors choose Ceeryo
CMYK with black on one plate
Text, rules and greys are converted to the black plate only and the ink coverage is checked, so type stays sharp instead of being built from four overlapping inks.
Crop marks and 3 mm bleed
Each page grows to hold the marks; the content stays where it was against the trim, and the trim and bleed are written into the file for the printer's software.
Every file from one upload
The press-ready PDF sits beside the PDF for KDP and the EPUB. Change the book on the result page and every file follows.
Use cases
Where Ceeryo works best
Local and offset printers
Short runs, hardcovers and print shops that quote against a CMYK PDF with crop marks.
Books KDP will not print
KDP does not print paperbacks in Arabic and some other languages. The press-ready PDF is what a local printer needs instead.
A printer's preflight
Fonts embedded, CMYK colour, trim and bleed declared: the checks a printer's prepress runs before plating.
Why not do it by hand?
Ceeryo vs. doing it manually
Typesetting a book by hand in Word or InDesign takes days and rarely passes KDP's checks the first time. Here's the difference.
Output quality
What the finished book files look like
Every run produces a preflight-checked print PDF and a clean EPUB — never a rewrite of your words. Here's what you get.
- CMYK colour with an embedded PDF/X-4 output intent
- Text and greys on the black plate only, verified by ink coverage
- Crop and registration marks outside a 3 mm bleed (or none, at exact trim)
- TrimBox and BleedBox set on every page; fonts embedded

Frequently asked questions
Should I send crop marks to KDP, IngramSpark or Lulu?+
No. Print-on-demand platforms trim by the PDF's page size and ask for files without printer's marks. Upload the plain Print PDF there; give the press-ready file to a printer that asks for CMYK, PDF/X or crop marks.
Why are the pages larger in the version with marks?+
The marks must sit outside the area that is cut, so each page grows by a margin on every side: 6.99 × 9.99 in for a 6 × 9 book. The finished size is written into the file as the trim, so the printer's software knows it.
Does a text-only book need bleed?+
Not for its content: nothing runs to the edge. The 3 mm bleed is declared because printers that work with crop marks expect it, and it stays white.
Is it a validated PDF/X file?+
It carries a PDF/X-4 output intent with a generic CMYK profile, embedded fonts and the trim and bleed boxes. If your printer requires PDF/X-1a or a specific profile such as FOGRA39 or GRACoL, send them the file for their preflight before the run.
